Brucellosis is a worldwide important zoonosis. The disease is highly endemic in developing countries, particularly in the Mediterranean basin. Any organ or system of the body can be involved. Nervous system involvement has been rarely detected in the cases with brucellosis. In this report, we present 41-year old patient who developed neurobrucellosis after implantation of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The patient relapsed after oral doxycycline - rifampin therapyÊand successfully cured with removal of the shunt and antimicrobial therapy. Physicians should be careful aboutÊ the hetoregenous presentation of neurobrucellosis in the endemic areas.

Bruselloz dünyada yaygın, önemi bir zoonozdur. Bu hastalık gelişmekte olan ülkelerde özellikle Akdeniz Havzası'nda hiperendemiktir. Birçok organ veya sistem tutulabilir. Santral sinir sistemi tutulumu bruselloz vakalarında nadiren saptanmaktadır. Bu yazıda ventrikuloperitoneal şant takılması sonrasında nörobrusellozis gelişen 41 yaşındaki olgu sunulmuştur. Oral doksisiklin ve rifampisin tedavisi sonrasında relaps gelişen hasta antibiyotik tedavisi ve şantın çıkarılması ile başarıyla tedavi edilmiştir. Endemik bölgelerde çalışan hekimlerin nörobrusellozun değişik kliniklerle gelebileceğini göz önünde bulundurularak dikkatli olması gerekmektedir.
