Iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome due to the use of steroid medication is extremely common because of the widespread use of these medicines in the treatment of many diseases. Systemic absorption of topical glucocorticoids may result in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction in children. In this study, two cases with Cushing stigmata were presented. They had been administered topical corticosteroid treatment because of diaper dermatitis. We suggest that physicians should be alert to the signs of Cushing's syndrome in patients on topical steroid therapy. In addition, these findings show that the use of topical steroids, especially during infancy, should be limited to a short period and less potent agents should be preferred.

Steroid preparatlarının, birçok hastalığın tedavisinde yaygın olarak kullanılmasından kaynaklanan iatrogenik Cushing sendromu son derece sıktır. Topikal glukokortikoidlerin sistemik emilimi, çocuklarda hipotalamo-pituiter-adrenal aksın baskılanmasına neden olabilir. Burada, Cushingoid görünümlü iki olgu sunuldu. Olgulara, diaper dermatit nedeniyle topikal steroid tedavisi verilmişti. Bulgularımız topikal steroid kullanılan hastalarda iyatrojenik Cushing sendromu gelişmesi riskinin olduğunu ve özellikle süt çocukluğu döneminde, topikal steroid kullanımının kısa süre ve düşük potensli ajanlarla sınırlandırılması gerektiğini gösterir.
