Atrial fibrillation has frequently been associated with mitral valve disease, particularly mitral valve stenosis. Mitral valve stenosis and atrial fibrillation are well known risk factors for left atrial thrombus and they increase the risk of stroke and thromboembolism 18-fold. Thrombus in the left atrium may cause fatal systemic emboli or sudden death due to occlusion of mitral valve orifice. For this reason, early diagnosis and treatment are very important in such cases. In this case report, we present a 69 year-old woman who had atrial fibrillation and a severe mitral valve stenosis with a huge thrombus in the left atrium.

Atriyal fibrilasyon, başta mitral kapak darlığı olmak üzere, mitral kapak hastalıklarında sık görülmektedir. Mitral kapak darlığı ve atriyal fibrilasyon, sol atriyumda trombüs oluşumu için iyi bilinen risk faktörleridir ve bu iki faktör inme ve tromboemboli riskini 18 kat artırır. Sol atriyum içindeki trombüs ölümcül sistemik embolilere ya da mitral kapak ağzını tıkayarak ani kardiyak ölüme neden olabilir. Bu nedenle erken tanı ve sağıtım bu olgularda çok önemlidir. Bu yazıda, atriyal fibrilasyon ve ciddi mitral kapak darlığı ve beraberinde dev sol atriyal trombüsü olan 69 yaşında kadın olgu sunulmuştur.
